Turmeric Tomato BLT Sandwich

h5ii1Hgi.jpg

We’ve launched a brand new product, Turmeric Tomatoes! This new pickle is a delicious southern style pickle with warming spices, savory garlic and spicy chili flakes. These tomatoes have a taste that’s unique and versatile. They go great with so many things like burgers, tuna salad, baked beans, and of course, a BLT!

Using Turmeric Tomatoes puts a tangy, spicy, and slightly sweet variation on a classic Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato sandwich, and we can’t get enough of it! Paired with crispy bacon we also used sourdough bread and arugula for extra flavor and tang.

You can get Turmeric Tomatoes online, in our shop on Saturdays 11-3p, and at the St Pete Saturday Morning Market!

Cuban Sandwich with Sweet German Mustard

jQwrJAaM.jpg

If you live in the Tampa Bay Area, there’s like a 99% chance you love Cuban sandwiches or have at least tried them. They’re a staple over here, originating in Ybor City. There’s nothing like a warm crunchy sandwich with ham, pork, pickles, swiss cheese, and mustard.

We used our Sweet German mustard on our take of a cuban to add a sweet and savory layer to the sandwich. We also of course used our Habanero Dills for a garlicky spicy kick. When you make a cuban at home be sure to get the best bread. We used cuban bread from La Segunda, a bakery in Ybor that has made cuban bread for a very very long time. (We found our bread at Lucky’s St Pete!)

So basically you build your sandwich first. Spread Sweet German mustard on one or both pieces of bread. Stack slices of ham, pork, and swiss cheese to your liking. Then slice our Habanero Dills in thin strips and place on top of the cheese. Close the sandwich and slather the outside in butter.

Then place your sandwich in a medium hot cast iron. We like to take a another pan or a foil-covered brick and place it on the sandwich to press it and give it a good crisp on the outside. Leave like that for a few minutes and flip, repeating that same step.

Then, eat while it’s hot and enjoy!

unspecified.jpg

We came across this Bon Appetit article this week about different ways to make the best PB+J sandwiches according to chefs across the country. We spotted a lot of strawberry jam in these sandwich ideas, and with the launch of our Strawberry Bourbon jam this weekend, we HAD to test a few out. Get your Strawberry Bourbon jam, fav PB, bread and a few extras and get ready for the tastiest PB+Js around!

PB+J #1

Our first PB+J idea comes from Chef Peter Lemon of Wax Paper in LA.

Take potato bread and layer with creamy peanut butter, Strawberry Bourbon jam, fresh peanuts, and freshly cut strawberries. For easiest sandwich eating, cut in a diagonal!

unspecified-4.jpg

PB+J #2

Our second PB+J idea comes from Chef John Bates of Noble Sandwich Co in Austin, TX.

Toast brioche bread in a cast iron skillet with both sides layered with crunchy peanut butter and Strawberry Bourbon jam. For easiest sandwich eating, cut in a diagonal!

PB+J #3

Our last PB+J idea comes from Chef Casey Rebecca Nunes of Media Noche in San Fransisco.

First mix some sambal (buy it here) with creamy peanut butter. Then fry up some bacon and layer your bread with spicy peanut butter, Strawberry Bourbon jam, and bacon. Add a tablespoon of butter to the skillet and fry sandwich on both sides.

We wanna know! Which sandwich are you going to try with your Strawberry Bourbon jam? Show us your PB+Js!

Cranberry Whiskey, Prosciutto and Brie Grilled Cheese

  • sourdough bread

  • 3 TB Cranberry Whiskey Jam

  • 2 or more slices of brie cheese

  • 3 slices of prosciutto

  • butter or olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat a cast iron skillet on medium.

  2. Butter the outside pieces of sourdough bread.

  3. To build sandwich spread jam on one slice and top with brie and prosciutto. Close sandwich up.

We eat salads almost every day. It can get quite boring if you aren’t getting creative. Fortunately, we have all kinds of preserves to spice things up. Switching up your proteins, veggies, and fats in a salad are all helpful in fighting salad fatigue, but one of the easiest ways is salad dressing!

Did you know you can use pickle brine, jam, and mustards in your dressings? It’s our favorite way to experiment with new flavors! We created 3 dressings for you today: Ginger Beet Dressing feat. Ginger Beets brine, Strawberry Balsamic Dressing feat. Peppered Strawberry Jam , and Sweet German Dressing feat. Sweet German mustard. All of these dressings have 3 to 4 ingredients and are so tasty you’ll be whipping some up every day!

For all dressings:

• 4 TB Extra Virgin Olive Oil

• 2 TB specified vinegar

• 1 TB of specified other ingredient

Strawberry Balsamic Dressing

Mix together EVOO, Balsamic vinegar and Peppered Strawberry jam in a mason jar. Shake until mixed and serve.

This would be delicious on a salad with fresh fruit, feta cheese, and walnuts!

Sweet German Dressing

Mix together EVOO, Red Wine Vinegar, and Sweet German beer mustard in a mason jar. Shake until mixed and serve.

This would be delicious on a salad with steak, green olives, fresh tomatoes, and sharp cheese!

This would be delicious on a salad with grilled chicken, goat cheese, walnuts, and some extra Ginger Beets on top!

TOAST TUESDAY! Goat Cheese Grapes + Thyme

fullsizeoutput_2e03.jpeg

There is nothing I love more than the combination of sweet and savory all wrapped up together in a dish that is texturally soft and crunchy all at the same time. This toast just does it for me! I have combined fried bread, that has a crunch like no other, soft goat cheese, decadent sweet Chai Red Grape jam, herbaceous thyme and topped if with some fresh grapes for contrast! It truly was such a delicious breakfast treat! Get the full recipe below!

IMG_4070.JPG

To create 1 piece of toast you'll need:

  • 1 slice of multi-grain wheat bread
  • 2 Tb olive oil (unless you just want to toast your bread in an oven)
  • 1 Tb goat cheese
  • 1 Tb Chai Red Grape Jam
  • 1 Ts fried pancetta
  • Fresh Thyme
  • A handful of fresh grapes

A cast iron skillet or a toaster

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your cast iron skillet on medium.
  2. After the skillet is heated up add olive oil, then fry the bread on both sides. This takes about 3-5 minutes per side. You could also just toast it in the oven or toaster!
  3. Put toast aside and then fry up pancetta in the skillet. I fry a whole pack of it and then use it through out the week.
  4. On your toast layer goat cheese, Chai Red Grape Jam, pancetta, thyme and fresh grapes cut in half length wise.
  5. Enjoy!

Herbed Cashew Cheese with Strawberry Balsamic + Cracked Pepper Jam

IMG_3101.JPG

I'd like to preface this by saying that I am not vegan, at all, however I am so obsessed with cheese that I've found there isn't any variety of cheese I don't like! This includes nut cheeses, when done right! My first nut cheese experience was at Love Food Central, (They use our jam on their "cheese" board). It was delicious and I found myself craving it! I can't go out to eat every day, nor do I want to, so I decided to try a few recipes on my own to see if I could come up with something equally delicious, but friendly to my budget. This recipe did the trick! But it won't stop me from treating myself to Love Food every now and again!
