Beginner Pickling Class + Intro to Italian Oil Preserving

Sunday October 8th from 12-3pm

This beginner pickling class is all about making delicious pickles, learning how to preserve them and also learning how to preserve vegetables in oil! 

Preserving vegetables in oil has deep roots in Italian heritages! For this class we will be pickling mushrooms and eggplant! Each participant will be making 2 different jars, one of traditionally canned pickles, and the second will be an oil preserve.

During the class we will enjoy Italian sodas made from jam! 

In the class we will go over local agriculture and nutrition, how sustainability directly affects our health and our community, canning supplies, myths, methods and step by step procedures. Kombucha, Wild Soda & Shrub Workshop

Learn the ancient art of fermenting your very own effervescent and cultured beverages at home! We will go through the steps of brewing kombucha, address SCOBY maintenance, and bottling. Next, we will explore the world of wild sodas, and learn how to make probiotic alternatives like ginger beer. Last, we will go over how to make shrubs, which can be used as a drinking vinegar or in your favorite cocktails. 

Live kombucha cultures will be available for you to take home, plus home brewing instructions on how to make all beverages. Participants will also be able to taste all of our fermented food and beverages, all made locally. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up in advance; our kombucha workshops have been known to sell out!

Intro To Wild Fermentation - Featuring St. Pete Ferments

Please join St. Pete Ferments for their guest workshop: Intro to Wild Fermentation! In this introductory class, participants will learn basic concepts of fermentation, its history, and how to make raw fermented sauerkraut at home. 

As part of the workshop, we will be making sauerkraut together as a group. Participants will take home a jar of their sauerkraut creations. St. Pete Ferments will provide a tasting of our fermented food and beverages, all made locally. Jam candles! Yes please! Inspired by the release of our seasonal jam flavor, Peppered Peach + Rosemary!

Learn to make your own scented soy wax candle themed around the upcoming seasonal jam release with local candle maker, Angela Marie from Astatula Candles.

During the class we will explore a brief history of candle making, the components that make up a candle and step by step instructions to build your own . 

Students will make and take home one 8oz. size glass candle scented with custom blended fragrance for the occasion.
